Pick up sticks

18 January 2012
This has to be one of my favourite games to play anywhere. It's a good way of introducing sticks to children. Each child need to find a stick. If necessary import these into the playground. The class or group stands in a circle and each child put their stick into the centre in a pile. Then, going round the circle, in turn each child tries to remove a stick without causing any of the others to move. If he or she is successful, then they can keep the stick. If a child is unsuccessful, then next child has a go. The game continues until all the sticks are gone. Pick up sticks

It appears to me that less is more...the less rules and regulations the more this game seems to be. Great simple game concept Juliet for quick way to get the kids out and enjoying sticks.

Thanks Deremiah - a very good point. Often we have a habit of over teaching or over explaining something when actually the best thing is simply experience the game.
